SMMA is a 100% employee-owned company, where every team member is an invested stakeholder. Our collective ownership fuels our passion for excellence, driving us to attract top talent and deliver exceptional results for our clients. Here, your voice matters, your ideas shape our future, and your success directly contributes to our shared growth.
Company History
Founded in 1955, the persona of SMMA is shaped by our founders Parker Symmes, William Maini and Jon McKee who joined together to combine a Rensselaer design studio culture with the MIT engineering rigor to form the foundation for the spirit and approach that permeates the firm today.
Over time, SMMA has forged extraordinary, long-term relationships with clients, established an enviable record in design, and planned and designed state-of-the-art workplace environments, all while remaining true to our founders’ vision of approaching design as a process of deep collaboration among multiple disciplines together, as one team.
Our culture puts design at the forefront through visual artistry and access to talent and leadership. We approach design through intense, multidisciplinary dialogue and action. As pioneers of an integrated design methodology, we strive to redefine the way our industry operates. With over six decades of experience, we maximize our value through early involvement and a convergence of artistic and scientific focus that speaks directly to the sophisticated needs of our clients and their projects.
