Company History
Architects Stewart Ankrom and Tom Moisan formed Ankrom Moisan in 1983 to provide integrated architectural, interior design, and urban design services to our clients. The mission of Ankrom Moisan is simple: Create Places Where People and Communities Thrive. We believe that when we achieve this, we help our clients achieve success.
We attribute much of our success to the work we’ve completed in Portland’s renowned Pearl District. Located just north of downtown Portland, we completed the first conversion of a warehouse to housing and played a dominant role in the development of this vibrant neighborhood. Ankrom Moisan has designed more than 2,132 housing units and 22 projects, including restaurants, offices, retail, and housing in this district alone.
We are now a national firm of more than 350 staff members and offices in Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. Our portfolio includes award-winning mixed-use housing, condominiums, apartments, affordable housing, senior housing, student housing, healthcare, offices, hospitality, and retail. Much of our work is in urban environments and many of our projects include a mix of uses.

Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
The Green Jewel Box. West Edge Interior Design winning “Best in Category” in Multi-Family at IIDA’s INawards this year.
This iconic design feature serves as a grounding and tone-setting element for West Edge Tower—experienced by pedestrians from the building’s exterior, again at the residential entry, from every elevator lobby, and from within the building's units. Our interior design team used it to capture light in the lobby and create a greater visual connection to the tower and its architectural moves.
A wedge-shaped skylight creates a prism-like refraction of light that traverses across the lobby roof before spilling into the Green Jewel Box, where a Japanese tsuma gaki tree stands in tranquil repose. The tower's residential amenities were thoughtfully curated to embrace the light-filled space.
The design element was a critical component in the West Edge Interior Design winning “Best in Category” in Multi-Family at IIDA’s INawards this year.

Continuing Education:
Ankrom Moisan University are hosted, credited classes that are conducted in house by an AMA employee. All staff members are encouraged to continue their professional development through formal education courses. This includes both credit and non-credit courses offered through a university or college, as well as continuing education courses, seminars and workshops offered through AIA, CSI, or other professional societies.
Staff are entitled to an annual continuing education benefit of 24 hours of paid time off.
