Title: Director of Interior Architecture & Millwork Design
Location: On-site in our Barrington, IL office (northwest suburbs)
Nature of role: Very hands-on, heavy field measuring and coordination

This person must be comfortable:
- Walking job sites regularly
- Field measuring and verifying conditions
- Coordinating with our cabinet shop, finishers, and superintendents
- Owning details from design concept through installation
This is not a decorator role and not retail showroom design. It is a technical interior architecture / millwork design role with real construction responsibility. On-site and in-office is a MUST.
WHAT THIS PERSON DOES
They will:
- Design and engineer luxury kitchens, baths, and specialty rooms (closets, bars, wine rooms, libraries, theaters, etc.)
- Produce detailed floor plans, elevations, and millwork drawings that our cabinet shop and field crews can actually build from
- Integrate appliances, lighting, hardware, and mechanical constraints into the design
- Coordinate with our in-house cabinet & furniture shop and finishing shop
- Solve field conditions and conflicts as they arise — they are accountable through final installation
- Participate in client meetings and presentations while protecting function, proportion, and buildability
IDEAL BACKGROUND
We are targeting individuals with:
- Experience in custom luxury residential or high-end millwork/cabinetry
- Led full interior architecture scopes including custom kitchens, wine rooms, built-ins, fireplace surrounds
- Produced permit-ready construction documents
- Worked directly with builders, cabinet shops, finish carpenters, stone fabricators and painters
- Managed shop drawings and RFI’s
- Been responsible for field coordination and know how to resolve real-world build problems
- Background at high-end kitchen studios, architectural firms, or custom millwork shops
- Deep knowledge of cabinet construction and architectural millwork
- Can draw a cabinet that can actually be built and understand the following – AWI standards, reveal dimensions, panel proportions, door styles, drawer construction, hardware clearances, finish sequencing
- Speak fluently with cabinet shops
- Strong technical drawing skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Cabinet Vision, Microvellum, or similar
- Comfortable reading and producing construction documents
- 5-10 years in high-end residential (not commercial-only, not staging, not retail)
Preferred credentials (not mandatory but helpful):
Licensure / Certifications:
- NKBA (AKBD/CKBD)
- NCIDQ
- LEED AP or WELL
- AWI / AWMAC standards training
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Interior Architecture, Architecture, or similar from a program known for technical rigor
- Formal Coursework in architectural detailing, construction documents, millwork detailing, building systems, materials science, CAD/BIM modeling (AutoCAD + Revit) or similar
